Save the dates? Save money instead.

As I was trying to sort through the "first steps" to planning I realized some of the things can cost a pretty penny and for what? for example:

Save the date cards: If you have been on any form of social media I'm sure you have seen those super cute save the date cards. The ones with a cute engagement picture that has the date somewhere like the bottom of the couples shoes, or carved into a tree. Don't get me wrong... save the dates are a great way to tell your prospected wedding attendees that you are planning a date around that time and they are awesome (and quite costly). Save the date cards from Vistaprint are the cheapest way to go you can get 100 cards for around $70.00.  Then you have to pay postage to mail them to your guests.

My budget friendly tip: Either skip the cards completely or go to Red Stamp where you can create your save the dates and send them via Facebook or email for FREE!. They also have paper postcards available to send, you can even enter the addresses of your attendees and they will mail them for you! It is a little more expensive this way but if you can send some through the mail and some over Facebook to the more technologically advanced and save a ton!

My Pinterest board for weddings!

I spend Lots of time on Pinterest pinning any and everything related to weddings! Click here to see it!

A little about my situation.

I am a full time nursing student at CCC&TI, and currently jobless. When my boyfriend Troy proposed to me in December of 2013 I started planning all of these great things that I would have in my dream wedding. Then reality hit... I'm a broke college kid with no job. It is Extremely hard finding a job in Boone because we have Caldwell Community College and we also have Appalachian State University.  I have applied everywhere except for McDonalds because I love the food and don't want to know too much about it. I am praying that something will come up and I can get a job somewhere!

I have my wedding date planned on May 15th, 2015. If you have ever been on Pinterest you know weddings can be complicated and expensive unless you have lots of connections with talented people that will either give you discounted rates on their services or give you what they have to offer as their wedding present to you! I don't have those connections but I am bound and determined to have my dream wedding in a little over a year for $5,000 or less! (much less I hope!)

In this Blog I am going to show you how I do it. I will break everything down and tell you guys how much my future husband and I have saved at the end of each month and how much we have budgeted and/or paid for.

So thanks for reading! leave comments and share your opinions! :)
